Tour No. 30: Death Valley and Tecopa Hot Springs

In the morning, from Las Vegas, head West on Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Road) to Mountain Springs for a world famous Bloody Mary and possibly one of Manny's great BBQ lunches to stay or go, and then on to the Old Spanish Trail Highway about 17 miles west on Hwy 160. There is an historical marker on the left 2-3 miles on the Old Spanish Trail with some information on the area. Proceed down the Old Spanish Trail to Mesquite Valley Road (this is a good dirt road) that goes out to a neat old homestead that is fun to explore, then on to the Western Talc Mines or up to the Kingstons to explore the Canyon Mine Springs. The Kingstons enjoy a milder climate than Death Valley and it is a great place to stop for a box lunch. Also note worthy here is the entrance to Sperry Wash, a 20 mile Class 3  jeep trail that ends up at Dumont Dunes, this is a day trip adventure for the more adventurous souls. While you are out in this area you will see old ghost towns, mines, wild flowers, boot hill graveyards and more.

Next leg of the journey would be to get on the Furnace Creek Road and visit the old Noonday and War Eagle mining districts, the Grand Canyon of Tecopa and the Willow Creek overlook, then down to the world famous China Ranch Date Farm for a mouthwatering Date Shake and Date Bread fresh from the oven, and a great gift shop. Here there is a 1.25 mile hike if the weather is good that winds around the creek and date orchard. Many miles of hiking trails in this area weather permitting.

Upon leaving the Date Ranch we assume it is late afternoon, so it's time to come and check in at the Historic Tecopa Hot Springs Resort! Check in, grab a shower, and a luxurious soak in our silky natural hot mineral springs, walk the labyrinth, take in the art gallery, and dine at our 5 star Bistro PASTELS.

If the moon is full we can offer a full moon hike or labyrinth walk and if it is a new moon we can offer a stargazing with our new 11" Celstron Telescope and color Mallincam which is a video camera that hooks to the eye piece of the telescope and allows us to display the image the telescope sees on a monitor or screen.

The next day breakfast, a morning soak, and then a trip into Shoshone to visit the Wooly Mammoth at the Shoshone Museum,  the Dublin Hills where miners used to dwell in caves and much more! From there you can loop into Death Valley and Furnace Creek, or tour the Amargosa Opera House, also a great lunch stop! Worth a visit too is the nearby Ash Meadows and Devils Hole.

Working your way back to Las Vegas you will want to stop in Pahrump and take your guests past (or into, depending:) the infamous Sherry's Ranch Brothel and Spa, and no visit would be complete without a stop at the Pahrump Valley Winery for a tasting and fine dining.

Now these are just suggestions and we have many more (we are headquarters for the Death Valley Chamber of Commerce!) Here are a few:  take a loop to Scotty's Castle for cooler daytime weather, stop in Beatty for lunch and visit Ryholite's Goldwell Open Air Museum and premier old ghost town. For the more curious, a stop at the Goddess Temple at Cactus Springs (the woo woo factor)! We have a million miles of tours and a million smiles for you! We are happy to help you plan an itinerary that suits you!
